thank you all for the info I guess what happened is normal I was only hoping that I was finished with periods.
I have had menopause brought on by chemo
Persistent1, Are you post-menopausal? Bleeding then would be of more concern. I am pre-menopausal as I think les58 is so we still have periods, although the tamoxifen does mess them up.
I WAS TOLD THAT IF I EXPERENCED ANY BLEEDING WHILE ON TAMOXIFIN THAT I WAS TO GET A PAP TEST DONE BECAUSE TAMOXIFIN CAN CAUSE CANCER IN THAT AREA
I started tamoxifen in July of 2003 and didn't have a period until November of 2003. It was very heavy, they kept being heavy and I went to my gyn in March. In May I had a D&C and fibroids removed, also I had cysts aspirated from my ovaries. My gyn thought this was all tamoxifen related, but my med oncologist thought that I hadn't been on tamoxifen long enough for this to be related.
After the D&C in May I didn't have a period again until July. Now I am having them about every six weeks and the first two days are so heavy that I bleed through everything. I think it has to be related to the tamoxifen.
I don't know if this helps you or not, but at least you know you aren't the only one with these symptoms.
Dear les58: It is not uncommon for women to menstruate while on tamoxifen. However, you should let your doctor know that this has occurred so that it can be monitored.
