Sounds like Mastitis. With it you have flu like symptoms and fever. Speak to a doctor and see what they think. They can also give you antibiotics if that's the case. Sorry I can't help more, I don't have any personal experience or know much else about it.

definitely talk to your doctor with a fever.

If you have a tender breast and a fever, go see a doctor. It may be mastitis as mentioned above but only your GP can determine that. If it is, you will be prescribed antibiotics which are safe when breastfeeding.

I've had Mastitis 4 times and only had the red streaking once. I'd keeping nursing like mad, get a prescription for antibiotics and use some hot compresses to relieve the discomfort. Good Luck!

Get well soon! The antibiotics are helpful and don't harm your baby :-)

I know this is an older post but I'm having a similiar scenario.

Last night I started having intense left breast pain but do not have a fever or chills.  I have had sinus/chest congestion for about a week though.

I stopped pumping/nursing about a week ago and have past the engorgment stage.

I've never had mastitis...is it possible to have it without having fever or red streaking?

I didn't have red streaking but I got all the other symptoms. My fever was really high. But that doesn't mean someone else would. Did you stop breastfeeding completely?

Yes, actually I was pumping and bottle feeding but stopped completely last Monday.

It very well could be then. I would go see your dr if it's still going on. Sorry I know it's been a few days. Let us know what happened!

I used cabbage leaves and took some pain meds and by the next day it was gone.  I also used a cold compress and it worked wonders.  That side has now pretty well dried up...still working on getting the other side to follow suit.  No more keep-me-awake-all-night-pain though, thank goodness!!!!!
