PCR Test

How long after exposure would the virus be detected by a PCR test?

I'm guessing that would depend on the person being tested, as it would depend on the viral load in the person you were exposed to and the viral load that got into your system.  I'm sure if you Google this there will be a generalization somewhere, but one of the hard things about this is it's a new virus, we've never seen it before as far as we know, and so we're learning all this stuff as we go.  The tests also have a very high number of false negatives, which could mean again there's a great variety in how quickly the viral load builds to a detectable level or the testing isn't being done correctly or the tests aren't sensitive enough.

Thanks for your reply. I have googled this and can't seem to find the answer and wanted to know if it was hours or needed to be days. I will keep searching!
Did you have an exposure to a know positive person? Have you been tested or is it even available where you live?
