Could I have cancer? Please Help!

I really need some advice as I am worrying myself sick! Im 24 years old, and I am overweight. For about 6 weeks I have had a pain in my lower tummy / pelvic region, and occasionally in my lower back (the pain is more or less like period pain.) Its often a dull ache, occasionally with the odd shooting pain to the left or the right but both tend to come and go, it isnt a constant pain and it did go for a couple of days but came back again. I have been to the dr and he said "I doubt its cancer so dont worry." This isnt really the response I was hoping for because something is causing it. I know cancer is often misdiagnosed and I wonder if I should press this matter with my dr and tell him I want some tests to be sure?

I have also recently developed a pain in my lower back which is painful to touch and a constant headache, with occasional neck ache, could this be related or something else entirely?

Any advice would be very greatly received!!!!

First - be insistent and your own advocate for your care. Ask that he do a sonogram and a CA125 blood test.  If there is pain, there is a cause. Maybe you are dehydrated, lack vitamins or need to get a colonoscopy.
Not sure your age but overweight is no excuse for dismissing the pain.
Get another gyn opinoin and also go see your internist or family doctor.
Get some tests done.  Lower back pain could be kidney problem or maybe a kidney or gall stones.  Most people think cancer cysts are just cysts - make sure you get a biopsy if you have cysts near the ovaries.  If you already have had the kids, see what he recommends or what you want to do about the cysts.

I have ovarian cancer.  My dr. had said I had cysts, getting old and fat - not much overweight 20-30 pounds. Said I was fine - said I didnt need the tests.  But I insisted and they came back ovarian cancer near final stage.
I found good doctors now and I am holding my own but I could have been dead in a few more months if I had listened to him.

Thanks so much for your responces. So if I push for an ultrasound would that show ovarian cancer if I have it?

Sounds like a GYN problem.

I would suggest finding a physician that will order an US or a CT of the lower abdomen.

I would push for some sort of test even if it is an ultrasound in the office.  It could be many things including an ovarian cyst, I doubt it is ovarian cancer if the Dr did an exam, they would likely feel any sort of larger tumor.  Some cysts can become quite large and painful with radiating pain to either side and the back.  It's your body- take control of the situation and if your Dr does not order a test, I would look at other Dr's.  There is no harm in an ultrasound and it is relatively cheap and easy.
Good luck.
