SIRT FOR LIVER METS FROM OVARIAN CANCER

I was dx with ovca 3/05.  You can read the details in my profile.  I have a very long history and have been fighting for 2 1/2 years.  While on cisplatin/taxol my cancer grew all in my liver.  I have a 3cm and a 2cm tumor with 30 other spots.  I went to the head oncologist radiologist looking into the cyberknife.  With all that disease i do not qualify at this time.  He called the head radiologist oncologist at UVA to do a procedure called SIRT.  I am not on chemo not for three weeks.  My cancer is extremely aggressive!!  I am scared!  I have an appointment tomorrow with the doctor at UVA.  I have many road blocks including coverage from Anthem.  I am already working on an appeal and haven't even qualified for the procedure.  I had two scans back to back last week.  The CT showed the liver mets and nothing anywhere else.  The PetCT has not been read yet.  Does anyone know about the SIRT procedure?  Any information would be helpful.  Thank you

Thank you very much for your response.  This is the 3rd time I've had liver mets.  That is why I want to try something different.  My gyn oncologist, head radiologist for the cyberknife and the head radiologist at UVA are working with me along with a few others helping me with my insurance company.  I will post with all the information I receive after my appointment tomorrow.  This procedure sounds so promising for me and could help others with Liver Mets and getting it approved by the FDA.  Thank you again.....Cindy

Hi.
You mentioned that your disease progressed while on chemotherapy (cisplatin and paclitaxel regimen), manifested as development of liver metastasis (more than 30 nodules seen in the liver).
The option of doing selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) for the liver metastasis seems feasible provided you satisfy the criteria for doing the procedure.  That is what your radiation oncologist will discuss with you.  Second-line chemotherapy is also a reasonable option for you.  You need to discuss these options with your oncologist, weighing the risks and benefits of treatment.
Hope this helps.
