a pea size bump on the side of the neck

Hi, Doc,.
I am concerned about a pea size bump on my 6 year old son's neck. It does not hurt and soft, just under the skin with normal skin color. I wonder what is could be. I noticed it since 2 weeks ago. Please give advice. Thank you, a worried mom.

Hi.
How are you doing?  What are your son’s symptoms?
The neck has extensive network of lymph nodes that filter any organisms entering the body.  These lymph nodes enlarge as a result of that.  Most of the time, infection is the cause of lymph node enlargement.  Perhaps there is an infection somewhere in the head and neck area, or in the lungs, that caused the lymph node enlargement.
You should bring you son to his pediatrician for evaluation.
Take care.
