I would seek a second opinion.  To be honest, you might not be able to find an Oncologist willing to give him more chemo due to his staging and present condition.  Did he have radiation at all?

Your situation is unfortunate; I feel bad for you.

What is your diagnosis and staging exactly?

Yes, there is alot of different chemo medications available, but it will depend on the type of cancer, etc. which ones can be ordered/administered in your particular case.

thanks for getting back to me.
I can tell you that not once did the doc. say anything to us about any side effect of the cisplatin.
when we first started with the xeloda, he did tell us about the nerves in the hands and feet
and the hair loss. but nothing about the cisplatin. now he seems to be saying that theres no more that he can do for us. go home and live the rest of your life feeling  good. and not do more chemo and feel sick for the rest of it. my head is spinning. I know there has to be more out there. we olny had two kinds. exloda and cisplatin.

I can almost be 100% sure this is related to the Cisplatin.

I have taken care of 5 patients that have had complete hearing loss in one ear or some degree of hearing loss in both ears after receiving this particular chemo.  This can't be reversed or made better.

I can't really buy the "he had a stroke" theory; my opinion.

Unfortunately, this can't be predicted, however, the possible side effects of the chemo should had been thoroughly discussed prior to administration.

Chemo
We had 4 rounds of Cisplatin, the blood work, the liver, was doing good, the tumor count dropped 1700 points in one week. WOW were we happy!!!  5 days later with no worning BAM!!  Left ear was gone... We went and had a ear test the next day. 85% in the right ear was good for working around very loud noises for 30yrs. and 100% gone in the left ear.. no problems the day before. Now the doc's. telling us that he believes he had a stroke. The MRI we had came back unremarkable. If he had a stroke i would think the EMT's, the ekg, or the catscan we had the day it happened would show some sign of a stroke.

I am an Oncology RN; 10 years.  I have given countless doses of chemo in my career and pretty much have seen it all in regards to cancer.  Cemo=Chemo.

Did you mean Cisplatin?  Well, this one in particular has a high incidence of causing neurotoxicity and ototoxicity.

The chances of having any problems/side effects can happen the first time, second time, fifth time, etc.

The chances are high even with one treatment.  This is more common with certain chemo medications than others.

What type of chemo are you receiving?
