Ovarian cysts are not that uncommon. Some go away on their own.  The important thing is to have a doctor monitor them.  I did have one burst some years ago and needed emergency surgery.  I had acute pain, abdominal and actually had rectal spasms. Doc in the ER made a bad call. It was my own doc that sent me for tests and it was discovered it had burst.  I had surgery but my doc at the time, due to my age, actually left part of that ovary and my other one.  About 5 years ago, I was having some pain and (since I had moved) went to a new doctor and he had an ultrasound done which showed more cysts on the ovaries. Due to my age, early 60's, I opted to just have them removed.  I'm sure, with monitoring, your Mom will be fine.
