Depressed Kitten

Hello! I have had Sahara for 2-3 months now... I think she is about 4-5 months old. 4-5 days ago my neighbors dog killed my other kitten (that we have had for 3-4 months now)and it was her best friend... and I think Sahara is really depressed.

She pooped out of the litter box
she constantly meows
she sleeps a lot
gained a lot of weight while we were gone

I know leaving her for 3 days alone didnt help (Went away for easter weekend)

She is doing better... not as much meowing anymore.

Is this something I should really worry? Can she get better without meds?

I think getting another kitten is a good diea.  The kitten misses it's playmate, and is probably bored.  Kitties are much happier when they have a playmate.

I hope that your cats are indoor cats, so that this will not happen again.  It is just too dangerous for outdoor cats, which is why ther life spans are so much shorter than indoor cats.

Nope, we are going to replace the kitten.

I have def been spending more time with her, letting her sleep on my chest whenever she wants (thats an occasional treat, lol)

She has been meowing a lot less now during the night and her appetite seems fine, thank goodness.

Ill get her a new toy! Thanks for the advice, she will love that!

I agree with joystick, you should take him to the vets, just in case.  After my parents dog died my mums cat didn't eat properly for nearly a year.  He needs all the nutrition he can get right now, being a kitten.  Give him lots of love and make him feel secure again, i wouldn't advise getting another kitten though, if you were thinking of that, it might do more harm than good.  Good luck!

Yes after a pet dies it is very hard on the remaining pets. And the signs u mentioned sound like depression. You should take him to the vet, if u cant at least give him or her all the attention u can give. Get him a new toy to .
