please help!

I have a 8 year old cat named scratch and she is very ill. We recently put up are christmas tree with lots of tinsel. We have done this every year for a long tim, scratch usually tries to eat the tinsel but we just take it away and there is no problem. This year a few days after putting up the tree, scratch began puking and first we didnt think anything of it but the next day she continued puking and refused to eat. This is very uncommon because she is normally overeating. Today, she appeared sick when I came home, and later when went into the room there was bllod all over the bed around her and on the floor. She is quite and hiding when normally she follows us around. I am very worried and will probaly be taking her to the vet in the mean time what do I do?

Hon, if your tinsel is made of aluminum (like most is) then if she ate it, it's very likely it's aluminum oxide poisoning. She needs to go to a vet asap. I didn't want to scare you because I considered it a miracle you cat was still alive if this was the case. This poison can degenerate the vessels (causing bleeding) and attacks the neurological system. It can't be digested and if it doesn't pass (the tinsel) it causes blockages.
It also affects the respiratory system, as a mentioned, because of the above.

If she's still alive, then you can get her treated. I'm not up on what the treatment may be, but you may want to call your vet and ask what the treatment is, and how long you have to administer it.

You need to take her into the vet now! Don't wait or you may have a dead cat.

Thank godness I found her and she is ok. But she is still very sick, shes sleepy and I think she is having trouble breathing, she won't drink any water. I am very worried, I will take her to the vet by noon if she throws up again. But please offer anyhelp of what I should do.

Scratch has gone missing now. We have looked everywhere and can't find her. If you have any suggestions where to look please let me know. Also what could she get oxide poisoning from?

It sounds like it could be A. oxide poisoning, or it could be a coincidence and something else is going on. The former can be deadly, though, so take her first thing in the morning. Just let her stay in a quiet dark place if it chooses and get it to drink some water if possible (if you have an oral syringe, use it. But if she really fights, stop, it'll just upset her and quicken the poison).
