I also have a male cat that is fixed, he is pretty large and he only eats dry cat food and rarely any soft. He eats the least compared to my other 3 cats yet hes the biggest
Yes they are both fixed, that is what i was thinking also on the thyriod, he is an active cat to a degree. He plays with his brother alot so he does get up and moving. She thinks it is weird as his brother doesn't gain weight the same way and she feeds them the same. I will let her know about the thyroid. thanks so much
Is it fixed? Cats get fat after getting fixed sometimes. Have you had his thyroid checked out?
How active is he? Lack of activity is a number one problem for indoor fixed cats (and children...and adults...fixed or not!) that could cause the problem.
He is only about 2 yrs old, he is my sisters cat and when she got him and his brother from a shelter he was so skinny but as time goes on his is about 17 lbs now. She feeds them less than I feed my cats and my 2 cats are skinny. His brother is not gaining weight just him. She has tied different dry diet foods but it doesn't make a difference. Our vet said it is dry food that makes them over weight so she tried wet and it also didn't make a diff. I am just worried it is some kind of illness. thanks for your post.
How old is he? I have a cat too that's overweight. I only give her 2/3 cup of dry cat food a day and she still is fat! But she's 10 years old and lays around a lot, so she's not getting any exercise. She doesn't even really play anymore.
Have you tried any of the low fat cat food out there? There are different kinds. The best kind is the kind you get at the vets office, of course, but it's the most expensive. Try that and maybe cut out the wet food. I don't know what else to say! It's not like a dog that you can take out for a walk! It's difficult I think for cats to lose weight.
