What is the best way to treat fleas on cats?

My kitty is about 6 months old.  I want to treat her for fleas since she is a house cat.  I tried the oily type medication that you apply at the base of skull but she is still scratching. Is there a shot that can be given to her?  Or what?  Thank you Jen

The frontline is pricy..but works GREAT.  It has been my experience that if you totally get rid of all the fleas and the cat never goes outside, you may not have to continue to do the monthly treatments of frontline.  I treated my cats when they were kittens for the first few months I had them.  They are now 5 and I have never seen 1 flea on them.  I also recently rescued a stray that did have fleas and so I treated them each with frontline...I haven't seen a flea since.

I believe there is a flea shot that works great. Also, you have to get the really good frontline neck drops, it's the only one that works well (but it's almost $50).

Be sure you use flea powder on the bedding and carpets. The eggs will still be about the house and by dusting and vacuuming for a few days, it should kill off the rest. The problem with the cheaper drops is they kill the fleas, but don't do much more. They don't prevent new fleas from coming onto the cat.
