4 yr old is twitching in his sleep and waking due to it.

Hello,

This just happened last night and my son is going to a pediatrician today to be checked out but I wanted to do more research and see if any one had some insight.

From midnight till he got out of bed my son would twitch or shutter, kind of like when your half asleep and dream of falling or missing a step and you shutter awake.  It would wake him every 5 or so minutes so he didn't get much sleep at all.

The last two days he's been recovering from a stomach bug and has not eaten but has drank a bit of Pedialite and water/juice combos, so not much food in the last 2 days. Had slight fever the first day but that subsided and seemed normal yesterday then this sleep twitching appeared.

Concerned and curious to say the least.

It sounds like this stems from his illness.  He is still recovering.

I know when I've been sick before; fever, stomach bug, etc... it would take me days to get back into my sleep rythm.  It's the same for kids... he is probably trying to still recover.

Definitely take him to the doctor today though... there might be something else wrong.  Don't worry to much though... this sounds pretty normal to me.

Let us know what they say!

This is what I was thinking but my wife was worried and for good reason so we'll see what the Doctors say and keep you updated.

Thanks

The doctor said that this could and was most likely related to having too much pedialite and not enough food in the stomach so it adversely effected him!!!

Thank you for your responses, this was a great experience.
