7 yr old son keeps and smells short pants always

my son has ahabit of keeping used short pants of my sister and smelling them...i often see him sometimes hiding while putting on my sister's short pants...it bothers us...and i talked to him about it..but he just said, he won't do it anymore..why and where did this behavior come from...he keeps short pants of my sister on cabinets etc..and doesn't want anybody to touch it...pls help...

Thank u for answering my posted msg...although it wasn't answered..at least i know what to do next..i was hoping that by posting this here i will get support groups who would have similar problems...thank u and if anyone of u out there has this situation..pls...post here...there's got to be someone out there who can relate to this..thanks again, Dr.Kennedy.

This behavior is unusual and deserves professional evaluation. Arrange such an evaluation with an experienced pediatric mental health clinician. The behavior itself can typify several conditions, so it's not possible on the basis of the symptom alone to suggest what might be occurring. But an evaluation will clarify the matter and help you re: intervention.
