ADHD and fears

My ADHD 11 year old son will not be in a room by himself. I have to stay in the bathroom while he
showers, and follow him when he wants to go to another room. How can I help him? Are there books, resources you can suggest?

I am in tears right now to find a mother sharing exactly the same experience with his son that my almost 11 year old boy is going through. My son is being tested for ADHD. I know kids with ADHD have a lot of fears, but never talked to anybody whose son is afraid to be alone in a room. I have to go with to every room that he needs to go and stay there. I also have to go with him to the bathroom and stay with him. This started 6 months ago. I just found this site and unfortunately I just realized in this moment that your comment is from 2008☹️ Now your son must be around 19 or 20. If you are still connected to this site, I would like you to give me some information how everything with your son turned out, I really need advice from someone that had the same experience with her son. It is a heart breaking to see my son like that besides everything else. Please, please, please, let me know . I pray your son is doing good by now, there is nothing worst than to see your child suffer. Thank you.

I don't know if your child is on any medications or not. One of my children experienced side effects (paranoid of things that he was not normally afraid of)  from an ADHD medication but I can't remember which medication it was.

Are you sure your son suffers from ADHD?  Sounds more like anxiety - often the behaviours of anxiety mimic those of ADD/ADHD and it is not unusual for a child to be misdiagnosed.  Try a search of the internet using "childhood anxiety disorders" or something similar to see if the descriptions are similar to that of your son.  If son, then I would suggest finding a doctor such as a child neurologist or child psychiatrist/psychologist or someone with experience in anxiety issues.  If this is the problem, please note that anxiety is highly treatable.  I wish you the best ,,,
