I couldn't agree more with the other posters. Get a second opinion asap. Do NOT put your child on Risperdal. These serious anti-psychotic medications have NEVER been formally tested on children - meaning there is no conclusive medical research regarding the effects of these kinds of meds on children. These meds can cause extreme side effects in adults. God knows how a 2 1/2 year old would react.

Speech therapy is definitely a good idea. Best to start this while the child is young.

What kind of behavior is your child exhibiting to make the doc suspect ADHD? Is it possible that your child becomes frustrated with not being able to verbally express himself and thus, is acting out with his behavior?

I believe this is too young and this is exactly what is happening children who have normal behavior becuase they may jump around ot throw a tantrum which is  'normal children  get these heavy meds ,check out the ADD and the ADHDforum  and see what happens to children on these drugs, sometimes there is a need but a lot of times there is not.If you google for information you will find answers.

If possible, I would seek a second opinion from another doctor.  I would not put a child as young as yours on serious psychotic medication without a second (or even third) consult.  I also question the ADHD diagnosis for a baby.  Just my two cents worth ....
