3 year old Great Granddaughter never stops talking?

My 3yr old great granddaughter never stops talking, she repeats herself all the time, things like "what colour is your car" if you tell it is white she will continue to ask "what colour is your car" she has done this type of thing since she has begun to talk and putting sentences together around 12 months old....if you ask her to be quiet for a moment she becomes worse....she is a very clever child but her continual talking is driving everyone bonkers, what stratergies can we use to slow down her chatter....Rene

This discussion is related to 3yr old son not talking at preschool.

My son (who is now 19 and doesn't talk too much) was like that.  I used to tell him my ears were tired and he had to be quiet for a couple minutes so my ears could rest.  ;D  Once when he got a haircut the stylist told me "HE TALKS TOO MUCH!!"

He's highly intelligent,  and he told me when he was about 4 that if he stops talking his brain tries to go to sleep.

I would guess she's somewhat the same.

Sorry I don't have any solutions for you except to say I had a child who couldn't stop talking and now he's fine.  There was even a popular song on the radio that said something about don't talk and he said he hated that song.

Talking and asking questions are what little ones do, it's how they learn and grow. Yeah at times it can be tiring my youngest is three, but discouraging them from speaking and asking questions like it's a negative thing is NOT going to help them. You can ask her how she would feel if when age was trying to watch her (favorite show) everyone was loud and age couldn't hear it. Also they are only young once and you can never get that back, take this time to build a special bond with her or teach her things...their brains are like little sponges and they love to learn.

Oh goodness, I never could watch tv when my kids were toddlers.  they want interaction. They are only little for a short time so turn the tv off and play or get her going on something to help occupy her without the intention of watching a whole show.

I had to give up a lot of 'me things' when I had kids.  I understand you are grandma but I think that is totally normal that she interrupts you.

Thank you for you responses...I too believe my great granddaughter is highly intelligent....but if you try to explain to her that your watching TV now and would she be-quiet, she talks more...she has a very controlling nature, if she doesn't get her own way she throws a tantrum....she wears her mother down all the time....I can control her as she knows she can't get away with it with me, I have boundaries, and am very consistent....it is just the constant talking that drives me and everyone else batty

Hi, shes probably very excited in her ability to communicate. I would not surpress her outwardness as these are the qualities that will get her to accomplish her goals later in life.
Have a sit down talk with her about how this can be annoying to others. She has self awareness, which is good, but this needs to be balanced with social awareness as well.
