Therapist's Solution for Child soiling himself

My son was soiling himself on a daily basis from the age 7-8. (Bad Divorce Situation). His therapist came up with a plan to have him wash out his own underwear. This therapist, being partial to the custodial parent over the non-custodial parent took this parent at his word that this child had been seen his pediatrician for this problem. Custodial parent never took child to pediatrician for the problem. Eventually non-custodial parent took child to ER due to severe rash on bottom caused by sitting in his dirty underwear all day.
Non custodial parent sent ER report to pediatrician. Peditrician, now aware, uses stool softeners to ease fear of bowel movements. Within one month, my son stopped soiling himself completely.
My question is:  Is having a child wash out his own underwear for soiling himself under these circumstances an acceptable form of "therapy"??? Especially under extremely stressful circumstances???

My personal opinion is that I would have a child do this, especially as you say under the stressful reasons he was .soiling himself, I think the best thing was to find out WHY he was doing it, sounds like you got to the borrom of that .I am not certain if it would be called acceptable but I know others here who will know .glad your son is okay now ...
