my 10 year old daighter is on adderoll...40mg. While it helped greatly she did develop 2 tics...one moving her jaw back and forth, the other...constantly popping her fingers or wriggling them together, these too concern me, while we have great improvement she has these tics and in addition weight loss also, no appetite. She is also been diagnosed with oppositional defient disorder but not put on meds yet and so I too have great concern on the long term affects of drug use. It is all very confusing as too what is best for your child...drugs, no drugs, yet you don't want your child to be miserable...good luck and go on the internet, there are alot of areas to answer questions.

Shannon,

My son, who is 4 1/2 and has ODD & Asperger's syndrome, takes 7.5mg Adderall in the morning and another 7.5mg after lunch.  While we have had problems with sleep and his appetite (he has always been an extremely picky eater), the improvement in his behavior has been ENORMOUS!  He also takes Risperdal, which has helps somewhat with his sleep.  Pay attention for any signs of being overly emotional.  That can be an indication that the dose is too high.  Keep in close touch with your doctor.  Good Luck!

Shannon, I am on aderall and have been for a while now. I was put on it for ADD and manic depression. I tried to kill myself last summer and they put me on wellbutrin first and now aderall. I weighed 128 when they started me on it and I now weigh 112. (I am 15 years old)I rarely sleep at night.. i usually go to bed around 1 or 2 in the morning and then get up at 5:30 to catch the bus. I get extremely bad headaches and rely on Ibuprofen sometimes and I still have headaches. I still get depressed but have not taken any actions in harming myself and rarely think of it. I am not sure if all of it is affects of aderall but i take 40 mg. in the morning and 20 when i get home from school. I'm probably on more than your daughter is on. I saw this and I just thought that I would let you know from experience. Remember that this is just my case and may not be the same for your daughter.
