Hillucinations

My 7 year old daughter was running a slight fever due to a cold, she woke up out of a sound sleep.  She ran around the house, she was frantic. She said that she seen differnet shapes that were scary. She was frightened by everything she looked at. I tried calming her down, but she just kept trying to run away from me. She was also, saying thinks like "why can't I finish my work" "I have too much to do" "why am I a bad student" I went to school to see if there was an incident I was not aware of. Her teacher simply said that she did not finish her school work that day before, that she had trouble placing words in alphebetical order.  When I mentioned this to her pediatrician, he said that hullicinations were common among children with a fever.

My daughters actions literally frightened me, and when I mentioned this to her the next morning she did not remember anything...Has anyone seen anything like this?

I have a 9 year old daughter and every time she has a fever she does this. She has done this since she was a toddler and it is very scary at times because she has her eyes open but she stares off into space but is scared, not usually about school but once during one of these episodes she kept saying that her nose was gone..... Kind of funny to look back on now but at the time it was no so funny. The doctor also said to us that this is common with some kids. When she is sick we just sleep in the room or check on her often to be sure she does not get up and try to leave the house. Nothing really brings her out of an episode, just time. Good luck.

I have heard of this, it's a cross between sleepwalking, bad dreams and a big imagination for this age.  Combine all this into a feverish child and there you have it.  The main thing to do is watch for any of these problems without the fever, and if it was to continue.  Otherwise, chalk it up as a done deal.
