x-ray results

i was recntly diagnosed with osteopenic bones. Degenerative change of the inferior of the inferior aspect of both S1 joints, right greateer than left. Mild narrowing of both hip joint spaces related to degenerative disease. Complete disc space loss at L2-3 qnd L5-S1 with moderate narrowing at other levels. Also anterior osteophytes of moderate degree. I am 75 years old, have had many surguries, including two recent knee replacements. I have great pain, esp at nite down my leg into my foot with numbness, this starts at the hip esp on the left side. What are my options?

I wish I had better news for you. Unfortunately, we only get one spine. It's best to take care of it before it's too late. I'm glad to hear your family is under care, I think that's wonderful.

Warm wishes,

thank you for your help. I visit a chiro regularly and have accupuncture each time. This is more beneficial than the heavy painkillers of morphine, didrocal etc which leave me a zombee for days. Is there any operation that can  !FIX! these discs I guess should have been my question. This applies to the hips as well which they have said will have to be replaced. The big problem of pain today is in my spine. Chiro gave me a belt to wear...but I need more help to deal with this pain now. Might add I love my chiropractor, he treats my entire family and i have the utmost confidence in him...seems he does not know what else to suggest other than cortisone shots and is hesitant because of  the drug Actonel that I am on.....any suggestions?

If you have complete disc space loss at multiple levels, the rest of your spine is probably suffering a great degree as well. I can't promise you that chiropractic care will be life-altering for your pain at this point... you may need to receive it simply for "damage control" since this has been around for so long.

You might consider acupuncture for pain moderation.
