MY SON

MY SON WAS TAKEN TO THE DOCTOR TODAY BECAUSE HE FELL OFF THE BED AND HIT HIS HEAD. I DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. THEY DID AN X RAY AND A CT SCAN. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG RESULTING FROM THE FALL, BUT THEY SAID THAT HE HAS A CONDITION CALLED SEVERE PANSINUSITIS. HE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT HEADACHES IN THE PAST, BUT HAS NEVER HAD ANY OTHER SYMPTOMS OF ANYTHING BEING WRONG. THEY SET HIM UP AN APT WITH A SPECIALIST ON TUES. WHAT ARE THE USAUAL TREATMENTS FOR THIS CONDITION, AND IS IT SERIOUS? MY SON IS 10 YRS OLD, AND I AM A LITTLE WORRIED. THANK YOU, TINA

Sinusitis means inflammation of one or more of the sinuses, normally air-filled bony cavities that lie behind the forehead and facial bones.  They can be inflamed by either infection or allergy.  The important thing is to determine the cause of the sinusitis and the specialist should be able to do that.  Depending on the cause, your son’s sinusitis may be treated with antibiotic and/or an anti-inflammatory medicine.  This is generally not a serious condition and should readily respond to pharmacologic therapy.  In some instances, surgery is required to facilitate drainage from the sinuses but that should not be the first approach.

Good luck.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that but it was a great thing he fell off the bed....For now you can do your own research online but the best thing would be to wait for the Doctors... I have sinusitis and I know smoke can irritate my sinusis so for now I would just keep an eye and do your own research, its amazing what you can find on the internet today...

I wish you all the best and please keep us posted...
