Absolutely not. There is no guarantee that it is gone. In fact it is likely that the clot may not be gone. Having a blood clot in one’s lung is a very serious situation. Your doctors should make every effort to identify the source of the blood clot and the reason(s) for its formation. This is a very treatable medical condition and you should currently and for some weeks or even months to come, be on an anti-coagulant medicine to thin your blood.
If the reason the blood clot formed has not been determined, you should have further evaluation. Some people have inherited blood clotting disorders, for others it is situational such as at the time of hospitalization for any reason or following surgery. Sometimes the cause can be related to medicine, such as birth control pills. And, sometimes it can be related to another, underlying and perhaps quiet and undiagnosed, medical condition.
This is no time for any uncertainty regarding the cause of the clot or its optimum treatment. If your doctor is uncomfortable with or resistant to any of this, you should request a second opinion with a doctor experienced in the management of deep vein thrombosis and thrombo-embolism.
This is not a time for you to be reluctant to request information and consultation. Also, there are National Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of this condition and your doctors should refer to them and adhere to them.
Good luck.
yes you should be on blood thinners, coumidin or warfarin. its important to be compliant with this medication. please listen to your dr. it could be very serious if you don't
Hi, I'm not the doctor, BUT I have had PE-blood clots in the lungs. I stayed in the hospital for one day and was sent home with meds to dissolve the clots. It takes time to dissolve them, at the very least 3 months. Weren't you sent home with meds? I was sent home with Lovenox injections and Coumadin(Warfarin) these are blood thinners. I hope that you were sent home with these meds.
