Trouble breathing

My husband was noticing he was a wee bit winded coming up the stairs, bending over etc.  Nothing drastic, so we thought it might be from years of smoking.  Then he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had his thyroid and 50 lumph nodes taken out, Nov. 1,2011.  Since the surgery he has had a lot of problem with his breathing.  He has had to lay down after coming up the stairs, any exertion makes his breathing very laboured.  He was in the hospital most of this past Feb. with double pneumonia and had to be ventilated for 11 of the days as his breathing was so bad and he could not lay down past a 45 degree angle.  Since coming home from hospital, he still has to be at about a 10degree angle.  He has had a multitude of test and his heart is fine.  His oxygen levels in his blood are fine.  They have no clue.  We would like an answer, even if it is bad, just so we have something to deal with.

Hi,
My husband's thyroid surgeon told us, last week, that he has a paralyzed diaphram.  We are just waiting for an appointment with a Neurologist and then go from there.  His quality of life sure has been changed dramatically. Hopefully something can be done.  Glad to hear that you are doing well.

Could be the Frenic Nerve?

Today is 04/07/2012, I had a Diaphragm Plication done on 02/16/2012 and got my life back!  OMG a new me!  I do not use my cane, I walk on a treadmill (for 2 weeks now) 5 times a week and up to 4 miles @ 2.7 MPH.  When I started I could only do a 1/2 mile after surgery. Yep I have my life back now!  Feels darn good to breath!

ONLY one question I have, How many Diaphragm Plications are being done a year in the USA?

Good Luck!!!
