How was it determined you have cirrhosis of the liver?
What tests indicate you have cirrhosis?
Were you diagnosed by a gastroenterologist or hepatologist?
Are you having any symptoms of cirrhosis?
What is the cause of your liver disease?
I have never heard of anyone with cirrhosis with such low AST and ALT numbers.
As I said AST and ALT have nothing to do with liver function or how advanced liver disease is. Total bilirubin, Creatinine, INR and platelet count are used to measure the functioning of the liver.
Cheers!
Hector
Your AST and ALT lab result are normal.
AST and ALT ratio are only relevant if your AST and ALT are above the normal range. In reality it is not used even then to determine cirrhosis of the liver anyway because it not everyone has a higher AST and there are more accurate ways to determine cirrhosis.
By the way AST and ALT only sometimes indicate when something is injuring the liver. Many people with chronic hepatitis C have normal AST and ALT results even though the virus is damaging the liver.
AST and ALT result tell nothing about the amount of liver damage a person has. You need a liver biopsy or other tests to determine the stage of liver disease.
Good luck.

Hi USA
Just an FYI
Liver enzymes tends to be higher not lower if liver damage is occurring

Thank you sir for your reply.
I ask this question about my ALT is 18 and my AST is 17
is because 20 years ago when I was young, I have a major surgery where they give me blood transfusion, this was in my homeland (a third world country)
Due to Third World country healthcare are not good like in the west, many blood tranfusion are not safe due to they not scan their blood.
My blood test come out all normal, except AST of 17 (on the low side)
and my primary care doctor didn't think I have a liver failure therefore he didn't order me a specific Hep/Liver test.
I don't think I can just walk into a lab to request a Hep test, they said I must have doctor lab order me for the test.
Anyways, thank for your reply.
