Possible fibrosis/cirrhois

Hi, I’m a 72 year young woman.  I had chemo last year for uterine cancer.  The chemo worked well on the cancer but seemingly caused liver toxicity.  The ct scan reports started mentioning liver abnormalities in Oct of last year, 3 months after finishing chemo. I’ve never had any problems crop up concerning my liver until last Oct. The most recent (I get these plus bloodwork every 3 months) reports mention underlying fibrosis/cirrhois probably due to the toxicity. My bloodwork is all normal except for alp & low platelets including alt, ast, bili, etc.I had many problems with low platelets during chemo but after that was finished the platelets returned to normal for about 6 months.  I’ve never been much of a drinker & was never overweight.  One report did mention 1 area in liver that’s fatty but no more than that.

I haven’t been referred to a heptologist yet but will be seeing a hemotologist about the platelets tomorrow.  I’m a patient at a very large cancer center so there are plenty of depts & drs. Needless to say I’m a little nervous about all of this.  I read a lot of posts & answers on here last night & learned a lot.  Thx!

Hi and welcome sounds like you’re doing everything right. Working with your health care team and follow their recommendations. I’ve had cirrhosis from hep c diagnosed in 2008. I too don’t notice symptoms. My symptoms are mostly found through testing like low platelets. I also have some lower leg swelling (edema) and I’ve had esophageal varicies in the past but that isn’t something you feel it’s hopefully found early with upper endoscopy.

Best of luck and hang in there

Thx so much, Lynn, for replying.  I did see the hematologist today  I will be doing a bone marrow biopsy next week.  He did a thorough exam & read the ct scan reports concerning my liver.  He didn’t comment much about the reports or make many comments as he’s waiting until he gets more info.  He did say that nothing in abdomen felt inflamed but that is only by feel, not a fool proof diagnosis of course.

Good luck with everything!  Sounds like you’ve doing well. I’m sure I’ll be back with lots of questions once I get some concrete answers.
One thing you could look into is getting a Fibroscan it is the modern replacement for a needle liver biopsy.

They use a device something like an ultrasound which produces a sort of thump to estimate liver stiffness which equates to degree of liver fibrosis (scarring)

Best of luck

Hi it’s me again.  I meant to add that I’m asymptomatic except for some bruising & I generally feel great.  I didn’t know where to add this on to my original post so I answered myself.
