Question

Hello, I have been on this forum for 3-4 months. I have cirrhosis secondary to HCV genotype 1. I am at a pretty stable point with this. Have had all the labs, procedures, ct scans etc. I have portal vein hypertension and some of the conditions that come with it. Small varices in esophagus, and stomach. No ascites but moderate edemia. Have HE and it is getting more severe. MELD is 11. My prognosis is liver transplant at some point.

This is the second day of this pain in my back, right side, about 5 inches from spine radiating deep like under my ribs then continues to right side of abdomen. The initial pain started almost exactly where my kidney is located. It feels and acts just like a bulging disc.As in my movement causes it to react violently. I can only sit , can not lie down at all. Its a constant dull throbbing ache with the star seeing pains upon movement. Have to walk bent over at a very slow leg drag pace. I have done nothing to warrant an injury.

I was just curious if any of you that have been through this cirrhosis thing for quiet a while would have a clue if it might be possibly related to this condition.  I am going to the DR. if improvement is not noted pretty soon. Just thought it might be another one of those things I have to "grin and bear" if that exsist for these symptoms.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for your time.

Jerry

New here but can relate to your symptoms

With the PH if you have High blood pressure you see if your doc could put you on Nodlol it's to help with PH (portal vein hypertension)

As for the pain in your back, does it "move" it could be a kidney stone
That's what it was when I experienced it a few years back.
You should never grin and bear it, your doc should be aware of the situation and look into what's causing it.

The symptoms that you mention is not a symptom of cirrhosis so we can't help on that front. See a doctor and find our what is causing the issue.

I am not sure why you say "My prognosis is liver transplant at some point." You should be treating now. Hasn't someone told you this? Why let your liver disease get worse and end up decompensating and then suffering with End-Stage Liver Disease or LIver Cancer? You should treat your liver disease now and prevent the need for transplant if at all possible.

Is there a reason you are not treating? Treatment has never been more effective or safe in cirrhotics. Many of us have treated when we had cirrhosis and were on transplant wait-lists.

Apparently you are receiving poor medical advice. You should be under the care of a liver transplant center now and get help while you still have time. You will need to treat your hep C either now or after transplant. Anyone who has a choice treats before transplant.
