baby tooth extractions

I was wondering if you could give me some advice please.  My son is nearly 4 years old. We went to the dentist today and was told that he had baby bottle decay. They said they need to extract  4 bottom back teeth, 4 top back teeth and also his two front teeth.  The dentist said they could put crowns on 3 of the back teeth, or just extract them, but the other  5 back ones  are beyond repair. I really dont want him to have these extractions, i dont want my son to have no front teeth, im very worried about the bullying he might get at school. I have heard that early baby tooth extraction can lead to a lot of problems such as chewing, speech and problems with adult teeth.  We are devastated and feel so guilty for letting him have a bottle, i know we are to blame for this and i hate myself....They have given us a few days to decide what to do, but i dont know what to do.   What are your suggestions and advice please? Thanks

Wow!  That's alot of dental work for a 4 year old to go through.  How do you go about putting crowns on baby teeth?  I agree with "itsytiff", if they're not bothering him....I wouldn't put him through all that.  The back teeth are gonna take alot longer to fall out though, so you might wanna have something done with them.  Definately get a 2nd opinion though.  Poor guy :(

As a parent I would get a second opinion.  That is very serious.  I think some dentists are more aggressive than others.  Why can't they be filled???  Even if another dentist says the same thing I think I would keep the front teeth at least.  If they don't hurt him right now they will fall out soon anyway right.  Just my opinion.
