Hi,
Congestive heart failure after delivery can happen due to peripartum cardiomyopathy, but no identifiable cause for it’s occurrence is noted. Certain risk factors like obesity, history previous cardiac illness, smoking, alcohol, multiple pregnancies etc can be implicated in it’s occurrence
Even though your heart size has returned to normal you are still on drugs for maintenance and this poses a risk that you could develop CHF again. It is difficult to predict whether the situation would be the same after the next delivery, so it is important to discuss with your cardiologist regarding this. Best.
hi thanks for responding im on a low dose of coreg my doctor says it shouldnt effect the baby
I am just a patient, but with the info that you supply, what I understand is that you have suffered a dilated cardiomiyopathy that produces your HF.
Now, 4 years later your heart is back to normal size, but I guess that the chances of having similar or worst problems are there. I think you should consult with your dr. before thinking on a new baby.
In any case if you are under heart medication, you should also consult him for potential effects on the baby.
