What is treatment and prognosis for dilated cardiomyopathy and thyroid disease

I am 29 years old, 6 months postpartum recently diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy with an EF of 25%.  Today I found out my TSH is 84.2%.  My BP is staying 160,s over 90 to 108.  They are trying to get me in with a endocrinologist, but an appt wasn't availabe till MAy.  Shouldn't I be on something right away for this thyroid?  Isn't 84% awfully high.  What is the prognosis or percentages for dilated cardiomyopathy.  Every thing I read is such broad answers.

Hi,

I am sorry for the delayed reply as I was out of town.

You are on perfectly fine medications and should continue on the same.

The next time you visit your physician, you can discuss the possibility of digoxin. The rest of the medications are fine and you need to continue with them.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi,

Firstly, let me clarify that the TSH values are not in %. Anyhow, the normal range of TSH is now 0.3-3.0 and your values are definitely high and are suggestive of hypothyroidism (means decreased functioning of the thyroid gland) and you will definitely need thyroid replacement therapy in the form of tablets. However, you need to be careful with the dose of the tablets as you need to start at a lower dose and escalate the dose gradually or otherwise it may worsen your congestive heart failure you are suffering from.

Secondly, the EF of 25% is definitely low and should consult your cardiologist for the same. I hope you are taking digitalis glycosides (digoxin) as they play an important role apart from the other therapies in improving the EF.

I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
