Is this Crohn's?

I recently went to the hospital and was diagnosed with colitis. I went in because my stomach was hurting (side of abdomen) and had the sensation of someone wrapping there hands around my throat. I left the hospital and was put on Flagyl and Cipro. The pain went away after 3 to 4 days. After my visit from the hospital, I was speaking to a friend and told her what happened. She stated that she thinks I may have Crohn's. Since shes known me I have always needed to go to the bathroom after eating. Sometime I go several times in a day. Sometimes I even experience really bad stomach pains with bowel movements( similar to contractions). The pain is so severe that I tend to sweat and spit (nauseous). In addition I have always complained about joint pain (in ankles, and in my hands (stiffness) especially in the morning. I am also tired during the day and feel more awake at night. I also have trouble going to sleep so I am on Ambien.

What could this be that I am going through? What is wrong with me?

Hi there!

Crohn’s largely affects the small intestine while colitis (inflammation of the large intestine) is a rare presentation. Colitis could also result from infections (as seems to be the cause in your case) and does not always mean inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The chronic symptoms could point to other issues as well such as gastritis, irritable bowel, food substance intolerance; motility issues etc.; while joint pains could be an unrelated issue. I would suggest getting this evaluated by a primary care physician or a gastroenterologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
