The doctor said that this sometimes happens and wants me to come in for a quad test. I'm 6 foot 260 pounds. I asked if this was common and she said she's had a few other women with this problem and couldn't tell me the outcome. I'm 33

So, not a tiny gal.  :)   I'm jealous, always did wish I were taller.

Anyway, the first thing it says about this kind of test in the literature is that sometimes there is not enough fetal DNA in the mother's bloodstream to run tests on.  It doesn't apparently have anything to do with the baby (in other words, "low DNA" doesn't mean the baby has a problem or a low amount, it just means its DNA is getting lost in all the blood from the mother.  We do have extra blood when pregnant.)  Probably the next test will show what the doctor wants to know.

Hi, Jenna, is your doctor concerned?  One reason that can happen is if the mother is a bigger gal, are you plus-sized at all?  The problem with not getting as much DNA out of a sample as they want is that they can't test for various things, not that it means there is an issue.  Does the doc intend to try again as the baby gets bigger?
