confused!!! && having a prenatal dna in a week

Ok.. I'm not sure when my period started in October. I took pregnancy test on Nov 14 and came back positive. My oopsie was having sex with my childs father on Oct 24th and my current bf on Oct 28 & Oct 30. I went an got an ultrasound to see about how far along I am, an by the ultrasound I'm 7 wks and 3 days today, which the nurse informed me my period started on October 12... and I was ovulating an.conception date was October 27th. My bf now is a little curious an is paying for a prenatal DNA when I turn 9 wks. I've been stressing because the dates I had sex is so close. I'm also confused on the meaning conception... the day you have sex/ or the 3-5 days it takes for the sperm to reach egg??? If its the day I had sex it would be my bf, if its the other way around it would be my bd. Someone please clearify all of this for me.

Hi, Jean, yes, it's possible to make an educated guess at a conception date from such an early ultrasound, and it was smart of you to have one.  Unfortunately, having a date (while useful for a lot of reasons) doesn't answer the who-the-daddy question if it points to a time where either guy could be the dad, which is what yours seems to do unless by some chance you didn't have sex with Partner A for a while in mid-November.  (I assume you kept having sex regularly with your main partner.)  See my answer to your other post.  Annie

I had my ultra sound today and was dated at being 7 weeks 3 days pregnant, is it possible to determine a conception date with this information? I need to know around when i conceived because i had 2 partners in November. Partner A is my boyfriend i have been with for 2 years and we have unprotected sex all the time, partner B i was only with for 1 night on November 13th. By the ultra sound i am 7 weeks 3 days, so does this mean that i was already pregnant on November 13th?

Hi, when you say you want advice on "this stupidity," I'll assume you mean on your cousin's assertions and suggestions?

After having had protected sex on August 22, you had a period two weeks later.  That alone is enough to stop worrying about Mr. August, since women don't have periods when pregnant.  Of course, there is always a cousin out there who is glad to opine that the period was just "implantation bleeding," but there is simply nothing to suggest this in anything you have said.  Even if you had not had a period, if you got your estimated due date from an ultrasound rather than just from counting forward from your period, you don't have anything to worry about in regard to paternity.  Using a conception calculator, counting backward from a due date of June 12 gives you:

First day of last menstrual period:  September 5
Probable date of ovulation:  September 19
Possible dates of conception:  September 15 to 23
Due date:  June 12 (40 weeks)

The only way I could see that you should have any concerns is if you haven't seen a doctor at all in this pregnancy, and also have EXTREMELY irregular periods.  In that mythical scenario, a woman ***might*** have had some bleeding associated with the pregnancy at September 5 and it just looked to her like a period.  But implantation bleeding really doesn't look like a period, it is extremely rare and is only a few dots of pink and would not be several days long.

If a doctor has seen you during the pregnancy and you have had ultrasounds and are hitting all the expected milestones, you conceived in mid-September or later and not on August 22 (or even August 29 or 31).   You can tell your cousin to calm down.

Okay so I've been with my child's father for a year and a half. I'm 15weeks & 1day so back in August (22nd) i slept with an old flame of mine but we used protection(I don't know if it broke or anything like that btw) But Me and my boyfriend Never used any protection we had sex all through August and September etc. My cousin is telling me this is not my boyfriend's baby and i'm due June 12th! She said because sperm can stay around for 7 days and i should get a test i got my last period on September 5th. Any advice on this stupidity??

OK, let's see.  If you were in fact 10w0d on 12/13, that counts back to an assumed start of your last period of October 4.  But when you wrote on December 4, you said "by the ultrasound I'm 7 wks and 3 days today," which gives an assumed start date of your period of October 13.  (I don't know for sure where you got the 5 weeks 3 days, your first post says 7 weeks 3 days.)  Anyway, what you're getting is about an nine-day difference in what the ultrasounds say.

What kind of ultrasounds were they, both transvaginal?  Both done by a private doctor with good equipment?  What did doctor B say about doctor A's ultrasound, and vice versa?  It is possible for ultrasounds to be less accurate if they are not transvaginal or if they are done by someone very new at their job, but the latter is pretty uncommon.  Usually it is best to rely on the earliest one, because babies can begin to grow at different rates, and by the time you get near the end of your first trimester, some doctors say the margin for error is over a week.  Did one seem to be much higher quality and more carefully done than the other?

If your first ultrasound was the most accurate (again, it's usually the one to trust), the conception calculator gives the following when counting backward from your due date:

Assumed first day of last menstrual period:  October 12
Probable date of ovulation:  October 26
Possible dates of conception:  October 22 to 30
Due date:  July 19 (40 weeks)

For someone with a period start date of October 4, the calculator says:

First day of last menstrual period:  October 4
Probable date of ovulation:  October 18
Possible dates of conception:  October 14 to 22
Due date:  July 11 (40 weeks)

Your oopsie being October 24, a lot depends on when you were having sex with your boyfriend.  You mention having it with him after the oopsie, but what about before it?

Did your boyfriend back out on the prenatal DNA test, or did you do it and then he disappeared?  As of 'Friday' (but what date?) you were ten weeks what, 10 weeks 0 days?  Did the doc say plus or minus x days?  (They usually do say that in the tenth week.  I've seen plus or minus as many as 9 days on some ultrasounds.)

I told my bf everything when.I read your advice, an haven't head from him since. So does Oct 15 sound right for my new conception date ? And how when my periods are normal an the last I can remember is Sept 11?? Can the ultrasound be off considering now its ten wks

Conception is the moment the sperm meets the egg.  It is true that if no egg is ready, the sperm can wait around for 4 to 5 days for an egg to appear, but fertilization is pretty much instantaneous.  (It doesn't take five days for a sperm to fertilize an egg once you ovulate.)

My conception calculator suggests that conception was around the 26th.  However, if you need to know the difference between conception on the 27th (which come from your ex's event with you on the 24th) and conception on the 28th (which could be from either guy), ultrasounds are not good enough to split that small of a difference.  Even as early as 7 weeks 3 days, although they can be spot on, they can also have a margin for error of plus or minus a day or two, which obviously would put your boyfriend back into the running.

I think a DNA test is a great idea given the situation.  Good luck.
