paternity results

Ok so please withhold your judgement, I know I should’ve been more careful but life happens. I have 2 possible fathers. My LMP was July 22-25. I had sex w/guy A 08/02 & 08/11 (used pull out method). I had sex with guy B 08/05 (finished in me). My conception date is 08/05 which is the same day me & guy B had sex. Based on my ovulation days 08/03-08/08 i informed Guy B & he had all my symptoms & I also had cramps & was gassy the day after me & guy B. So I was a little concerned so me & guy B got a NIPP which came back 0.00% which makes no sense because it doesn’t add up & now he wants nothing to do with me. Also my baby has his features on the ultrasound. I just feel in my heart the results aren’t correct. Can the results be a false negative? Should I test the guy A?

It is quite possible for sperm from 08/02 to fertilize an egg at ovulation 08/05. You should do a test on A to confirm he is the lucky guy and there was no mistake on the first NIPP test. Best of luck!

As ppowb points out, if you did ovulate on the 5th of the month, it does not rule out the possibility that sex on the 2nd of the month produced the pregnancy. The 2nd is not far enough ahead of the presumed ovulation date for all the sperm to be dead by the 5th. ("Pulling out" doesn't actually do much to prevent pregnancy; he could have had sperm in his pre-ejaculatory fluid.)

How did you get the ovulation dates, from an app? (You weren't by any chance using an ovulation predictor kit at the time?) And are your menstrual months super regular and always 28 days from period to period? Sometimes a woman gets her ovulation date from an app, but it is not based on her own cycle history but is based on lots of women's average cycle length, which might be not the same length as the woman's own cycle. This could explain the negative test of the guy you think should be the father -- he might not have really been on the exact right day even if the app makes it look like he was.

What company did your prenatal DNA test?

Did you witness the guy doing the swab and handing it to the lab technician? If you didn't, and if he has seemed to resist the idea that the pregnancy is from him all along, that could be a place in the chain of events to reconsider. (It's possible to get a negative on a DNA test by sending a lookalike buddy in with your own ID.)

It's never a bad idea to test both guys when doing prenatal DNA tests (or post-natal ones either, for that matter). One guy will get a positive and the other will get a negative, and each guy's test will act to fact-check the other's.

I did start off using different apps for my ovulation which gave me roughly about the same dates.  but I also did my own calculations which is the same the ones my OB gave me. My cycle length is usually 31 days. Is it possible I ovulated a week later? I am beyond confused and embarrassed because I thought 100% sure he was the dad. It was already drama & this just made it worse. Me & guy A are doing one next week to confirm but I’m still nervous that the first one is wrong.
If you and the other guy are doing a test next week, that sounds like it will solve the problem, if the test is from a reliable lab.
I don't think you should be "beyond embarrassed." There are two possible explanations -- either you made a mistake in assuming the first guy was the dad and he really isn't, or he faked the test. Neither of those things is worth ducking your head in shame. Just figure out how to check the results you have so far, and stay calm.

In case you do get a negative for the second guy, more testing will be called for to determine where the problem lies. This is why I suggested using a reliable DNA test company, and also you witnessing the guy giving his swab to the technician. Did the first guy act like he wanted to get out of possibly being the father? If there has already been drama, it might take legal authority to get him to test again. While a judge will issue a summons for a guy to take a test, this is usually not done for a prenatal test, only one after the baby is born. Not that he can avoid testing just by making a fuss -- judges don't smile upon guys trying to shirk their responsibility for a child. But be ready to talk to a lawyer if you need to summons the guy to test.

For the sake of simplicity, I hope the second guy proves to be the dad when you test next week.
What were the results of the test with the second guy?
Still waiting for the results, will update soon as I get them!
