My gut feeling without seeing you is that the tooth does need the rct. The fact that this tooth was sensitive to cold for an extended peroid of time indicates that the nerve was inflamed and now I feel that there is a good chance that this pulpitis is irreversible and the rct is needed.You can consult an endodontist(specialist in RCT).
