Antibiotics after Apicoectomy?

On Tuesday the 3rd i had Apicoectomy for an abcess on a front tooth that i let go way too long due to ignorance. When the dentist was doing it he said he had to do a bone graft on the tooth as it was almost gone, i was on antibiotics for about 8 days and had finished them the Sun before the surgery. The day after on wendsday i went in to pay him and he asked my how i was doing, it was only then he realized i wasn not on any antibiotics and he prmptly gave me 4 200 millgrams of amoxicliin> i asked him if i needed more and he said i should be good. My question is, should he have given me a perscription for more antibiotics? why would he not have? i realize i shouldve asked him that day or pressed the issue now i feel that i just wasted 1200 dollars.? it is Sunday and i have no swelling just a mild pain

Hi,
I don't think you need to worry.  You finished an entire dose before your procedure.  It should have gotten rid of any residual infection present and the amount he gave you after is a loading dose so you should be fine.

That you have no swelling and from the sounds of it, only minimal surgical pain, I'd say you are doing very well.

Good luck on the api's success!
My very best to you,
Gellia
