bump on gums

I was just at the dentist about 2 months ago and at an oral surgeons about 2 weeks ago, both time I had xrays done on whole mouth. Now I have a bumg on my gums from the top of tooth to the top of my gums. It doesn't hurt, and its not discolored. Also no puss has cpme out of it or anything, but it is soft. I mentioned the xrays because wouldnt a root canal infection show up on them...

Sometimes it'll show up on an x-ray, sometimes it won't.  If it started recently, you should go back and follow up.  Sometimes a crack or trauma to the tooth can result in it dying without any trace of a cavity.  The infection can spread and cause the bump without it being apparent on the x-ray.

As always, the sooner the better because if there is an infection, it may spread.  The sooner you treat it, the better the outcome.
