Child dental work Sedation or General Anaesthesia?

My 5 yr old son needs quite extensive dental work probably about 6 extractions, some fillings and coatings etc. He weigh about 41 lbs. Dentists asked us parents to choose between sedation (3 -4 sessions on the clinic setting) or general anaesthesia (in 1 sitting at the OR); Either one we are nervous for our son. Any opinion on which one will work better for him and for us? Any points about local anaesthesia? Can his body tolerate the general one?

Sedation is the safer option. During sedation the patient is awake but is completely unaware of what is going on.
There are various ways in which sedation can be given, the most common being inhalation (where gasses are breathed in through a mask) or IV ( where a cannula is fitted and the sedative given through that)

Either one is very safe . If you don,t feel comfortable with pharmacological intervention, seeing other pediatric dentist who can deliver behavior management.
