Constant tooth pain for over 2 years

Hi, I just have a question for anyone who might have the same thing that I have been going through for the past 2 years. Starting in 2005 I have had a root canal on tooth #3 and a rootcanal on tooth #2..I aIso had re rootcanal treatment done on tooth #3 twice and twice I have had surgery on the root ..now tooth #3 and tooth #2 are filed down very low and they have  put a crown together on them...I am still in pain, I am sensitive to hot (not cold) and by the dentist touching the gum area..(everything looks fine on the xrays they say) I have been to 3 different dentists since all of this has started..and no one can figure out why I am still having pain?...I was at the dentist again last week..and he doesn't even know what to do? he did say maybe I could have the tooth removed(#3) but can't give me a straight answer if this will stop the pain? I could try and have some kind of gum surgery that might take a long time to heal and it still won't make the pain go away and my insurance will not cover it, because my gums are healthy? it would cost me somewhere between 650.00 or more?? I am at a lost as to should I just have the tooth removed..but I am also scared that if they do that it will not make the pain go away, and because I had all this work done already with the root being removed, I will probably have a hard time getting an implant in place?? sorry so long..just wonderign if anyone else has ever expierenced this before? or does anyone have any good suggestions..I am desperate for this pain to go away. Thanks.

I am investigating my problem, no root canals or anything triggered it, just a filling.  Have you looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia?

It may not be a dental problem at all, but a nerve problem.

See your medical doctor and perhaps get a referal to a neurologist.

I have a similar situation right now, but when i went back to the dentist & tell them it still hurts, they tell me its the tooth next to it. the 1st tooth i did was #18, then they did #17 & now they telling me its another tooth... is it because i am paying cash for everything that they just like to do all the teeth?? or maybe they just didnt do the job right. I dont know...

i had a similar situation, and unfortunatley for me all the docs/dentists gave me was vicodan, which i took for a year and have now been clean for over a month.  I was told i had TMJ... I was never the same after that horrible root canal (next to last molor, upper left side), i wound up having the tooth pulled because when they were ready to put the crown or bridge i was still in pain, i went to yet another dentist who told me the tooth might have been fractured.  so to an oral surgen i went, he pulled the tooth, they gave me a bridge, i've been in pain ever since.  Is it TMJ or not, I had an MRI, said yes TMJ, nothing anyone can do, have the night/day guard, etc.  The pain is much better since i've stopped taking pain pills... When my allergies act up or i get a "monthly" migraine, I feel the TMJ.. they also said i have arthritis in my jaw because of the TMJ, i'm convinced that the dentist who took over 3 months to do the root canal ruined me..
Good Luck
