How early can I start flossing my daughter's teeth?

My daughter is 2 years old and I would like to start flossing her teeth daily?  Is that ok or is she too young?

How cute.  Most people figure that dental hygeine isn't important for children as they 'lose' their baby teeth anyway.  I wish I had looked after my gums better.

How wonderful that you are thinking of this and the sooner you start, the better she will get used to the idea. It is recommended that you introduce flossing as soon as two teeth are side by side. So go ahead! Pharmacies carry very small flossers for one-time use. They work well on front teeth, for the molars it is quite a challenge. I believe, however, that you can not floss under the gum line as we would do as adults. At that age it is more about developing a good routine. Many parents still believe that children do not need to see a dentist until age 3. You are doing your daughter such a great favour.
