Red, white spots on tongue

I something on my tongue that seems to come and go. About 3 months ago i first noticed small red dots on the tip and sides of my tongue. Over a time period of about 3 days they slowly expanded so that the spots grew and now look like a circle with a red border and a slightly white or pink colored middle. With the first time, i seemed to lose some taste on the tip of my tongue. I went to the doctor who thought it was some sort of fungal infection. and confirmed i had a fungal infection in my throat.i took an anit-fungal topical gel for 7-10 days and slowly they went away. however a couple of weeks later the spots came back and once again started small and grew to the red circles with white centers.however, this time they had no affect on taste. since then they seem to come and go as they please with no real effect on taste and dont seem to be as many as with the first incidence. sometimes i may just have one.
since this time i have also experienced more stringly saliva and also more foamy saliva.i often wake up in the mornings with a dry mouth and a sort of foamy saliva on my tongue. this occurs regardless of the spots. i also notice during athletic activities that i very quickly have a dry mouth or foamy saliva in my mouth
I have worried about fungal infections, hiv (did get tested once and was negative),std's, trush, allergies, and i should mention that i do have asthma. Could it be any of these things? I've done some research on the internet and it seems to be closest to geographic tongue but looks nothing like any pictures i've ever seen. Any ideas?i'm stressin thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Usually geographic tongue is a permanent thing and is benign. I am wondering if you have an inhalant for your asthma. If you do this may be a possible causitive factor. I am not sure why the nature of the saliva changes. I think a visit to an oral surgeon might be beneficial for you.
