Root canal - surrounding gum redness and pain

Hi, I've had a root canal done two days ago on my upper front tooth. I was told it will be pain free next day. My dentist had given me antibiotics as a precaution. I have developed pain on all right upper side and redness around the teeth. I am taking the extra strong Tylenol and it doesn't seem to be helping. Also, blowing my nose is a bit painful - I am assuming that is because of the freezing needle. Please help - I am having difficulties sleeping and functioning during day.

i agree the pain is not normal. you might try advil or aleve instead of tylenol  since they relieve swelling better.

I would check back with your dentist, pain you describe after a root canal is not normal.

Redness around the tooth is normal due to the rubber dam.

this isnt really going to help you, i never had a root canal i am 13.....but when ever doctors say you will be fine the next day damn are they wrong. i had surgery on tuesday feb 10 for meatal stenosis and my doctor said that i will be in school on wednesday. i missed the wholle rest of the week and am still in pain. i think it is normal for you to experience pain like you are, you do not have to be worried. both of my parents have had root canals and they have pain longer than a day,....i wish the best to you :)
