Small cut in gum.

a few days ago, a painful lump appeared at the very back of my lower gum, (the skin right at the back between the side of my face and my teeth) after 2 days i felt a sort of flap of skin, at closer inspection it was a small cut about half a centimeter in length and about a millimeter in depth. it constantly feels uncomfortable and it is extreemly painful when i eat and if i speak for a short period of time. i use mouthwash which stings but afterwards makes it feel better, and anbesol which again, stings at first but then makes it numb. it is difficult to brush my teeth and eat as i fear getting a bit of food in it. any ideas to what it is? and what i should do about it?!

If I understand you correctly it sounds like it might be in the area of the wisdom tooth. I do not know how old you are and if your wisdom teeth have been extracted but if not i would consider seeing your dentist to get a diagnosis.
