About 5 days ago, I started feeling some pretty intense pain whenever I put any pressure on the tooth located in the very back on the lower-right side.
My new dental insurance doesn't start until Feb. 1st, but I went to a dentist to at least get it examined. They took X-rays and said it looked like there MAY be a chance that the root canal on that tooth (which I got years ago) needed to be redone. They weren't sure, though. I explained the insurance thing to them and they gave me pain meds and antibiotics (amoxicillin), which I've been taking regularly for about 4 full days.
The pain's been lessening each day and today, I can put pressure on the same tooth without any pain, but now there are two swollen points - one behind the tooth, and one on the outer side (facing the cheek). The point BEHIND my tooth (where my wisdom teeth used to be) developed yesterday, and the one on the side developed overnight.
Do you guys think I can wait for another week to go see a dentist about this? I don't know if the swelling is just all the stuff from the infection or whatever it was and it's just getting stored under the gum. Whatever advice would be appreciated (keeping in mind that I don't have a lot of money to pay out of pocket).
