Tooth extraction...still in pain and reaaaaallllly red!!!!

I had 2 teeth pulled Friday afternoon 6 days ago.  The left side is fine.  The right side still hurts really bad!  It keeps me awake at night throbbing and I have to have ibuprofen during the day.  The gums around the hole are bright red!!! The Dr said that I would be a little more sore on that side because my tooth broke so he had to dig for the roots.  However he suggested 4 days.  He said he got all roots out but I still feel a small sharp edge on the gum line above the hole.  Could a piece of tooth still be there causing an infection? I've been taking cipro since Friday as directed.  I've also been rinsing with a prescription mouthwash that has perioxide in it for the past 3 days.  Is this normal or should I go back to the dentist? I don't have insurance so I don't want to go back if I don't have to.

Oh.  No, keep using the Peridex.  I thought you were using hydrogen peroxide.

It may just take some time for the area to heal and the bruising to clear up.  Is it getting better each day at least?

Thank you.  I had a dry socket when my wisdom teeth were pulled.  It isn't the same pain.  I really feel like it is just sore because he had to dig and pull so much.  My face is even bruised.  The mouth wash is chlorhexidine 0.12% (generic for peridex mouthwash)  do you think I should stop using that?

I would suggest you give the dentist a call and let him know what's going on.  I'm not sure if the peroxide is a good idea or not at this stage.  There may be a bony spicule in the area causing pain (which is a loose piece of bone).  Or it could be dry socket.
