Definitely go back to your dentist to get it checked. Not sure what it could be. Its possible there's a fracture but the pain should have started right away during the fracture. The swelling worries me and it makes me think there's an infection in the area and that antibiotics are needed.
Nope doc, the pain didnt start right away, other then being in pain during the root canal. However when they adjusted the bote on the corwn, the vibtraion from the drill hurt a surprising amount, but this was only 2 days after the root canal. Basically the day after, barely any pain...day 2 a little pain, enough to think i needed the bite adjusted, 3rs day pain getting worse and that night, OH BROTHER AGONY!!!!! day 4 excrutiating pain..day 5-6 pain getting better but have been doubling up the dose on penicillin...still hurts though and still have a lumpy thing at the base of the gum/cheek and still a hard lump that i can feel in my cheek beside my nose...Its like 1/2 the time I think Im being paranoid since the dds told me I could have pain for 2-3 weeks but its the seveirty of the pain which makes me think, this isnt right...i have a high tolerance for pain, but i can compare the pain to the dry socket i recently went through...severe...I also have concerns about this "lump" and "bump" issue...i dunno, but im really starting to hate teeth!
UPDATE: went back to the dds this morning...he did a new xray, no abcess but there is some infection. The HX of the tooth is in june i had a filing break and the tooth hurt, so a dds put in a medicated one...tooth felt better so she did a crown build up in it and a temp filing...no pain at this point. But as soon as the permant crown went on, EXTREME biting pain...she insisted nothing was wring after 4 trips to see her i demanded to see my old dds who was in the process of retiring...she was taking over for him. He took one look at the Xray and said my god that tooth needs a root canal...but he didnt do them anymore only the idiot femal dds who is replacing him...I refused to let her touch the tooth for a 7th time in 6 months and found a new dds.
He did the 1st step of the root canal, no issues,, but 5 days after the 2nd step PAIN PAIN PAIN AS YOUVE READ ABOVE.
he said aparently there was an chronic infection from back 7 months ago from all the other dds work and she never bothered to address it...and the root canal for whatever reason made it go acute,,,he is putting me on some steriod pack (forgot the name, starts with an M) and for me to stay on the antibiotics...he wants to see me on my last day of the antibiotics to see if the infection os gone and put me on 5 extra days of them...he said the root canal "by all means looks like a perfect sucess"...but the pain is from the infection...we just have to get rid of those bugs at this point!
Well. Sorry to hear you're in pain but glad that they figured it out. Hope you feel better.
already feeling bertter, ran down as all get out, still a knot but i started the methiprednesonlsone? and still on my penincillin...im just woried that if the knot doesnt go away they will have to do that root canal SX...the one that starts with an A...where they cut open the gums. This dds said that the root canal looks perfect though, he said its just the infection in my bone thats gonna be the kicker! this stupid tooth has caused me trouble for 7 months now...that dds back in my old home town should have done the root canal last june but "NOOO THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HER FILING"...2 diff dds told me w/o a doubt it needed a root canal after i quit seeing her...im talking not months later i saw her on a mon, say a diff dds that tues and another onethat fri, all in a week and they said root canal.
Is there anything I can do about this? A formal compaint? my dds here said he would docment all the issues. he said the crown she did isnt even in line with my other teeth. she did it and it was out so far, that my lip got stuck on it when i tried to yawn talk or smile...she just filed down the front til it didnt get stuck. my dds said now there is very little structure to the crown and i need a new one now that the root canal was done throughit since it was already messed up?
any advice on what i can or cant do...i dotn wanna sue, i think thats baloney but i wanna make sure she knows how serious this was to ignore. i mean shed tap on it, and id tell her it was excrutating, i even grabbed her hand at one point and she said "there is no issue i dont feel pain"...um i think i would know best...my new dds said i have infection in my cheek bone, bone around my sinuses and in my something ligement...he said its a very massive infection thats been there since june...or longer. ca this incompetent dds get in trouble?
thanks, Sara in Texas
Well you should definitely discuss the issue with your former dentist to let them know about whats happening to you. If you want, you can also bring it up to the dental board in your state but as a practicing dentist, I would definitely want to be able to discuss and defend myself with the patient outside the dental board first to resolve any misunderstandings or problems.
