Usually candidiasis (thrush) is diagnosed by looking at it and seeing if it is a wipeable white coating. If it is wipeable, its most likely candidiasis and treatment with an anti-fungal is recommended. But more importantly, you may want to see a physician to figure out why you are having a fungal infection in the first place. The body can normally regulate a fungal infection. It can be a sign of a problem with your immune system. It can also be a side effect from taking antibiotics and antibiotics kill bacteria, which removes the competition for fungus to grow.
Thrush may or may not hurt.
