pain after bridge installed

in june 2008 I had a bridge installed and have been in pain ever since. I informed my dentist and have been back to see him for treatment in august, september, october, november and december of 2008. Each time he made an "adjustment"which felt as though he was filing , and told me to give it some time. I finally sought a 2nd opinion and was given an xray and informed that the bridge was attached to a tooth that should have had a root canal which was causing the pain. Accompanied by my husband we told my dentist the findings and he agreed to a root canal at half price. The procedure was carried out but the pain is still there. My symptons  in addition to constant pain are ; a metallic taste , discoloured gums which are sore and have cuts and bad breath. I feel a constant pressure as though the device is too tight. My dentist does not accept this but does not offer an alternative solution. I am at my wits end and can not bare the pain any longer . Have you any suggestions. What is involved in removing the devices and returning my mouth to a status quo.

Its good that you sought a second opinion on the matter.  You may want to seek a second opinion again (or a third) in regards to the proper course of action as it seems you have exhausted all yours with your current dentist.

It may be prudent to remove the bridge and replace it with a temporary bridge to see if that is the source of the problem.  Have you maintained the hygiene of the bridge with flossing and brushing?

It may be that you are allergic to the metal in the bridge or that it is an ill-fitting bridge.

Well, they would need to cut the bridge off and replace it with another bridge at this point.  It would just need to be made out of different metals underneath or a complete porcelain bridge as an alternative.

I'm not sure how they would determine a metal allergy besides sending you to an allergist for testing.  I would assume they may do a skin test.
