possible failed root canal?

About 6 months ago I got 3 root canals done on my three front bottom teeth. I had an infection from impact since I was young and it was undetected until now. Two of my teeth are fine, but one tooth is still a bit sensitive, turning black, and mobile. I'm very worried. I feel as though the root canal failed. My dentist wants to take off the filling and see what is going on inside my tooth. He said it may be cracked, the filling could be leaking, or he didn't get out all of the infection. I remember this tooth being a little trouble when they did the root canal. He  re-packed the tooth after looking at the first x-rays, and it has a curved hook-like root. I don't know what to do or think! Does anyone have any advice about what's going on, or what I should do? Thanks!

It sounds like you still have an infection and the tooth needs to be retreated. I do not know if your dentist is a root canal specialist(endodontist), if not you might consider getting a consult with the endodontist.

Sometimes this happens.  It did with me.  I had to get it redone through a crown and then it was fine.  All roots are not the same. I have learned that redoing  these is not uncommon.  Just make sure he does not do a virgin tooth since later it will weaken to tooth and you will spend more money unnecessarily and then need a crown later due to the decay of the tooth from the unnecessary root canal.
I would have him redo your canal.

Thanks so much for your advice. It makes me feel a little better that this has happened to other people too. But I have one question...What is a virgin tooth?
