post root canal pain

I had a root canal done on one of my top back molors, 3 days ago. I have been in excruciatin pain since. the dr gave me a acetamino/codeine antibiotic, and I take pain killer every 3 hours and get no relief. Mostly jaw pain and throbbing head. Can this be normal or is something serious wrong. It's the wknd so cannot call in. Thanks.

Thank-you, I cannot face being opened up again either, too painful. I'll call my dentist.

Sounds like the root is still irritated by the procedure.

It took a few months for my pain and dizziness to settle when I had a filling that irritated the root.  I refused to have the filling removed and refilled.  Didn't want to go through the trauma of having to be drilled again!

You can wait and see how things are after you finish your antibiotic or make an appointment to see your dentist before you finish your antibiotics and see what the dentist has to say.

Best wishes.

I doubt that root canal hasn't finished so that your nerve still has irritation. Have your gumline become swollen?
